What to do

VISIT OUR BEAUTIFUL LOCAL BEACHES

• Dawlish Warren: Best for bird watching, children’s funfair and beach photography. Sand dunes and wave breaks all along this wildlife sanctuary. Dawlish Warren also has a great children’s amusement park with bumper cars, slides and go karts to add to the ice cream.

• Dawlish Town Beach: Best for walks and train spotting. Rockston beach in Dawlish is just before the Warren and has a promenade alongside the coastal railway line. The long beach ends with red sandstone cliffs and caves.

• Coryton Cove Beach: Best for a quick walk and rock-pooling at low tide. Park in Dawlish and take a short stroll along the coastal promenade to reach the sandy Dawlish beach.

• Teignmouth Beach: Best for a traditional day on the pier or fishing and diving trips. Teignmouth has the Victorian ‘Grand Pier’ with children’s amusements and shopping. A great spot for crabbing.

• Shaldon Beach: Best for sitting in a deck chair and watching the busy Teignmouth estuary with a good lunch. There are a few pubs in the vicinity so this beach is good for a sociable group.

• Ness Cove: Best for a children’s adventure as it is accessed through an original smuggler’s tunnel. This is a steep beach so not suitable for young children or the disabled.

• Babbacombe Beach: Best for swimming and visiting Babbacombe Model Village.

• Bantham and Bigbury-on-Sea: Best for surfing and visiting the world famous Burgh Island Hotel. This beach is a vast area linking up to Burgh Island. A great place to learn or practise surging. Bigbury beach also has beach wheelchairs available to hire from the Venus Café – so everyone can enjoy the sea.
